DescriptionMemoranda, notes, drafts of papers on education by Chadwick. Includes: "The School Children of the Metropolis" 1882 (schooling systems found in London, with special reference to the London School Board and comparative systems in continental Europe); various papers on the half-time systems (both for working children who did half days at school and a system of half classroom learning and half PE); corporal punishment; Edward Tufnell and the pupil-teacher system; proposed 'Elementary Education Bill'. All late 1860s-1880s. Also papers on 'education for the agricultural classes', reports of inspectors of elementary schools (describing the school day, subjects they think should be taught, etc); memorandum on the education of the children of the Metropolitan Police Force. Mostly 1880s.
