AdminHistoryDavis was born on 30 April 1915. He was educated at the London School of Economics, 1946-1950. He then became a Lecturer and Reader in Economic History at the University of Hull, 1950-1954. He became Professor of Economic History at the University of Leicester in 1964, and in 1976 he was appointed Pro-Vice-Chancellor there. Davis was a Trustee of the National Maritime Museum from 1968 to 1975. He published articles and books, mainly on trade and the shipping industry. Davis died on 30 September 1978.
