DescriptionAlbum titled "Marine Sketches from Nature by E. Duncan", containing sketches, studies for works and watercolours by Edward Duncan RWS (1803โ€“1882). 67 pieces in total [originally 69?], many signed, dated and titled by Duncan. Mostly pictures of a maritime theme, including ships, coastlines, beaches, fishermen and details of ships, people and equipment. Places include Whitby, Mull, Berwick, Lochalsh, Spithead, the Mumbles, Whitstable, Seaford, the Thames and Arran.
One sketch titled "West Coast of Scotland" has been cut out of the album. A note on the remaining part of the folio states that it was given to Catherine Cohen, 11 March [19]38. There is a space on another folio where a drawing appears to have fallen out.
Inscribed on the fly-leaf "Emily Reid 27 Heath Street Hampstead 1885". Emily Reid was a relative of E S Pearson's through his grandmother, Lucy Reid.
All the artworks have been stamped with a small backwards 'R' in red ink on the bottom right corner.
