AdminHistoryKensington Preparatory School was initially the junior department of Kensington High School, which was first school opened by the Girls' Public Day School Company in 1873. The original school buildings were heavily damaged during World War II, and moved into temporary accommodation. The senior school closed in 1948 and the junior department moved to 17 Upper Phillimore Gardens and was renamed Kensington High School Junior School. In 1985 the school was renamed Kensington Preparatory School and run along the lines of a traditional preparatory school. In 1997 it moved to new premises on 596 Fulham Road.

Related MaterialThe main records of the school are still in the possession of Kensington Prep School. Inspection Reports were also originally held in the file but were removed at a later date when the records were held by the Trust. Many of these papers were originally held in the file with papers on Kensington High School (marked 445) but were split up by the Trust before they were transferred to the Archive. The papers on Kensington High School are now in GDS/13/11. Photograph of William Cash at the 90th birthday celebrations of the school can be found in GDS/3/7/1. Report on the condition of the buildings at the school, 1988, can be found in GDS/3/8/88.
