AdminHistoryOxford High School opened on the 3 Nov 1875 under head mistress Miss Benson with 29 pupils. It was based in the Judge's Lodgings in St Giles which had to be vacated at the time of Assizes. In 1878 the school moved to 38 St. Giles, before it moved to a purpose built building at 21 Banbury Road in 1880. From 1911-1917 the school had a Domestic Economy Department based in 40 Banbury Road. The preparatory department moved to 332 Banbury Road during World War I. After the war there was a short-lived experiment in self-government, when the formal rules were abolished and the school was responsible for its own order and discipline. In 1932 the preparatory and lower forms were brought together in 18 Bardwell Road. During World War Two pupils from Kensington High School were evacuated to the school and to accommodate pupils the school overflowed into 13 Bardwell Road. In 1941 the Form III moved to 18 Bardwell Road and the kindergarten and transition moved to no. 13. In 1946 the Preparatory Department moved to 84 Woodstock Road (now Cunliffe Close). The junior department moved to 1 Bardwell Road (Buckler House) in 1954. In 1958 the whole school moved to a purpose built building on Belbroughton Road. In 1997 Greycotes School and The Squirrel School merged with junior school. The former residence of The Squirrel School at Woodstock Road became the home of the youngest pupils. The other junior school forms moved into the former home of the Greycotes School at 1 Bardwell Road, where the school was formerly based.
