AdminHistoryClapham High School was opened on 19 September 1882 in 'The Lawns', Clapham Common South Side under head mistress Miss O'Connor. In 1898 the lower school moved to 'Westbury' house in Nightingale Lane, where a kindergarten and a teacher training Department were opened. In 1899 the land on which the school stood was purchased by the GPDSC and a new building was erected designed by J Osborne Smith. In 1900 a Secondary Training Department was opened which was organised by the Board of Education. The new building was officially opened in 1904. The new building was large enough to accommodate the pupils who had transferred from Clapham Modern School and offer further expansion to develop a course for art teachers. In 1904 a domestic science course began which later introduced training for the housewife certificate, and training for domestic science teachers, both of which ended in the 1920s. Due to falling numbers the school was merged with Streatham Hill High School to form Streatham Hill and Clapham High School.
