TitleIndividual Scholarships, prizes etc.
Date1895-[1990s]
DescriptionFiles regarding individual scholarships, prizes etc. awarded by the Trust which now appear to be defunct. The files generally contain papers regarding the formation of the scholarships, trust deeds, and later amendments. Unless otherwise stated, these files do not general contain information on pupils who were awarded the scholarships. There are also a few files regarding general gifts or endowments presented to Trust schools which are not related to scholarships etc. These have been retained in this series as they appear to have been originally filed in this order. There is very little information on the pupils who were awarded prizes/scholarships before 1969.

Early single school prizes appear to have been held by the individual schools and the interschools prizes were held by the Trust. From the 1930s many of the existing single school prizes were endowed to the Trust by trust deed and many new prizes appear to have been directed endowed to the Trust. Initially the prizes appear to have been generated by bequests or funds raised by or for the schools. From the 1950s/1960s many prizes were generated by deeds of covenant, where the donor promised to pay a set amount for a set number of years. Many of these prizes were renewed during the life time of the donor and were later endowed to the Trust on death.
ArrangementThe majority of the files are been arranged by numbers on the original envelopes. These numbers seem to relate to the numbers given by the Trust to each Trust deed/deed of covenant. These numbers can also be found on the BAC list marked as QB, which refers to deeds which were held in deed box B formerly in the head office at Queen Anne's Square. The numbering is incomplete, presumably because most of the deeds are still active and remain with the Trust.

A few file were not clearly numbered but were integrated into the series by either the date of the first Trust deed or the date they were first awarded if there is no clear trust deed. In cases where there are several files numbers relating to the same prize the files have been integrated and arranged by the lowest file number.
