Description | Papers regarding the inter-school Somerville Science Prize, the first recorded prize to be awarded by the Trust. Before 1940 the prizes were subject to an examination set by the Oxford and Cambridge Joint Examination Board. From 1947 the regulations were changed and prizes were awarded to the girls who wrote the best essays on a scientific subject. Includes: 1) General, Papers, 1918-1980, including correspondence regarding revisions to the regulations for the prize and discussion regarding what topics could be justified as being 'scientific'; 1920s examination papers; notes on the history of the prize. 1 folder. Open. 2) Examiners Reports, 1957-1977, reports from the examiners and other papers regarding the pupils who won the prizes including some of the winning essays and list of essays submitted under various topics.
