DescriptionPapers regarding the inter-school Cash travel scholarship initially awarded to girls going on to Oxford University. In 1962 the Trust formed an ad-hoc committee to look at forming a scholarship using a memorial fund raised in memory of Lady Hilda Cash. The regulations and Trust deed were sent to the Sir William Cash and the Council for approval in March 1964. Sir William died shortly afterwards and the Council decided to raise a memorial fund in his memory which would be integrated with the Lady Cash fund to form more travel scholarships.
1) Lists of donations made to the funds, 1963-1967, including a list of the total of contributions from each school and correspondence regarding a bequest by Fanny Marston left for the fund in 1973. Closed for 80 years under the Data Protection Act (1998)
2) Papers of the Lady Cash scholarship committee, 1962-Mar 1964.
3) Various papers regarding advertising the Sir William Cash Memorial Fund in the press, 1964-1965.
4) Correspondence with head mistresses regarding their suggestions on how the memorial fund should be used and projects by individual schools.
5-6) Papers of the Sir William and Lady Cash Scholarship committee, Jun 1964-1973, 1978-1986, including amendments to the regulations and names of the girls who applied for the scholarships. 2 folders. Closed for 80 years under the Data Protection Act (1998).
7) Papers and drafts leading to the Trust Deed for the scholarship, including the Trust Deed, [1966]-1968.
8) Examples of essays written by girls who won the scholarships, 1978-1983.
Also contains isolated correspondence regarding the Friends Travel scholarship and the Friends Mathematical Prize.
