AdminHistory | When the Institute became part of the Area Training Organisation in 1949 a new committee structure was created and an Academic Board was formed for the wider Institute.
It consisted of the Director of the Institute, the Chairman of the Committee of Principals, the Chairman of the Conference of Local Education Authorities, all Teachers of the Institute who were Professors or Readers, plus thirty elected Teachers and six co-opted members.
It was responsible to the Council for all matters relating to the admission of students, the regulation of courses of study, research activity, and examinations. It appointed Standing Sub-Committees for specific topics. In 1971 three student representatives were added to the Board and in 1972 nine members representing practising teachers and their professional organisations were also invited to attend. The business of the Academic Board dwindled when the University withdrew validation of degree courses in the associated colleges after the 1983 entry and it appears to have held its last meeting in 1980. When the Institute of Education became a School of the University a new committe structure was adopted. |
