AdminHistoryThis committee was established in 1949 under the new scheme for the Institute in order to collect from Local Education Authorities and from the Ministry of Education information as to their programmes of lectures for teachers and to make recommendations to the Council as to the lectures and courses which should be provided by the Institute for practising teachers and to explore the development of educational centres, both centrally and locally within the ATO. It consisted of the Director, representatives of the Conference of Local Educational Authorities, practising teachers, including some nominated by the teaching unions and others. It provided the link between the Institute structure and the Teachers Centre (later University Centre for Teachers), and was closely involved in its work without being its formal supervisory body. After the demise of the ATO the University Centre for Teachers was funded by the general University Grants Committee grant to the Institute and it reported to a new sub-board of the Central Academic Board.
