| AdminHistory | This was established by the Academic Board in June 1975.
It consisted of one representative nominated by each institution offering an undergraduate course in Education; three or more representatives of different professional areas nominated by the age-range panels of the Standing Sub Committee in Education; five appointed teachers nominated by the Central Institute to cover the main fields of educational studies; five teachers nominated by the Board of Educational Studies; the Chairman of the Board of Educational Studies (ex officio); four practising teachers and up to three co-opted members.
It advised the University of London Board of Educational Studies (records held at Senate House Library) on the scope and value in course units of courses in Education as part of a DipHE or a degree other than the BEd and the method of assessment of such courses; and the combination of such courses, ‘having regard to the need for them to form a coherent whole and to the professional aspects of the study of education.' It made recommendations to the Board on the appointment of examiners, on general principles concerning the teaching of courses in Education, and nominated respresentatives to serve on BEd Committees.
It also acted as a Joint Degree Committee for BEd courses in which candidates offered courses in Education only.
Later, the following terms of reference were given: 'To determine the combinations of courses that may be offered in Educational Theory and Practice for the BEd degree when the course of study for that degree consists entirely of courses in Educational Theory and Practice, and in so doing to have regard to the need for such combinations to form a coherent whole'. |
