AdminHistory | Each Local Education Authority listed in the schedule of the Area Training Scheme nominated one representative to serve on this Committee. In the main, it was the Chief Education Officer who served although they frequently sent deputies..It had very vague terms of reference, being constituted to 'discuss any matter relating to the Institute and make recommendations thereon to the Council. It also nominated representatives of Local Education Authorities to serve on the Council and other Institute Committees. In 1965, due to an increase in size of the Committee following the increase of the number of Local Education Authorities in Greater London, a Standing Working Party was established. This consisted of one representative of each Authority maintaining a College of Education, and six representatives of the Conference of Local Education Authorities not maintaining Colleges of Education. The Working Party was able to discuss any matter within the terms of reference of the Conference and to 'exercise their discretion in the taking of executive action.' Consequently, the Conference met on fewer occasions. |
