AdminHistoryIn Feb 1970 the Secretary of State, Edward Short, wrote to the Chairman of Council of the Institute asking that the London ATO, in common with others, carry out a review of its present structure and the content of courses for which it was responsible. The reports were later submitted to the James Committee.

Individual working parties were established to investigate different facets of the work of the Institute and the work was overseen by a Co-ordinating Committee. A study unit was also appointed under the direction of the Dean, to undertake technical work in connection with special enquiries and the work of the working parties and consisted of G.W. Miller and B. Baughan..

The administrative officer for the enquiry was Denis Baylis who supported the secretaries of the Co-ordinating Committee and the working parties from an office at 36 Bedford Way and acted as liaison and communications officer for the enquiry. A Study Unit for the Enquiry, under the direction of the Dean, undertook technical work in connection with the special studies and was also housed at 36 Bedford Way.

An interim report was completed in April 1971. A Supplementary Report, modifying and extending the interim report, was issued in August 1971.
ArrangementDuring the recataloguing of the Institute's archive in 2015 the structure of this series was simplified and obsolete levels were removed. All old RefNos are recorded in the AltRefNo field.
