AdminHistoryUnder the Scheme for the Institute adopted in 1949, the University carried out a programme for the visitation of those institutions which applied for admission as constituent colleges and the regular visitation of those already admitted. Four or more visitors were appointed for each visitation including a Professor of Education from within the University, a Teacher of the Institute, a College Principal and an external visitor. Later, a practising teacher was also included. Each visitor produced his or her own individual report and these were amalgamated into the final report as submitted to the Visitations Sub-Committee of the Council. From here it was passed on to the University Senate and then formally communicated to the college authorities.

A Standing Sub-Committee of the Council was appointed to deal with all matters connected with the visitation of constituent colleges. It consisted of the Chairman of the Committee of Principals, the Institute Director, a Teacher of the Institute, a representative of a Local Education Authority, a practising teacher and two University representatives. Its duties were to draw up a rota of visitations and nominate visitors for the approval of the Council and Senate. It also received the final report of the visitors and sought the informal comments of the college authorities on this before passing it to the Council.
