AdminHistoryThe Institute of Education nursery was opened in September 1979 with the intent of providing childcare for the children of staff and students. The Institute of Education converted some basement premises, Woburn Square was used for outdoor activities. The fees for the nursery were £20 per week. There were problems recruiting children, possibly due to the high fees the nursery had to charge due to the Institute requiring the nursery to be self-financing as the University Grants Committee placed restrictions on how their funding was to be used. Attempts were made to increase the number of children in the nursery and Camden Social Services were offered places for Camden residents. Various attempts were made to save the nursery including a suggestion by Hobsbaum that was incorporated into the activities of the IOE, for example for the study of the children, but the nursery closed in December 1980.

The nursery was reinstated in the late 1980s.
