AdminHistoryThe Enquiry was established by the International Institute of Teachers College, Columbia University, with the support of the Carnegie Corporation in 1931. T Percy Nunn served on the Committee along with Sir Michael Sadler (Chairman), Sir Philip Hartog (Director), P.B. Ballard, C. Delisle Burns, Cyrill Burt, C. Spearman, G. Wallas, G.H. Thomson and Sir Fred Clarke.

Its main aims were to examine 'fundamental problems and technique of examinations' and 'the sociological aspects of their organisation and influence'. It tackled a wide range of issues such as the effect of the 11+ examination on infant schools, marking techniques and viva voce examinations.
