AdminHistoryJoan Mary Bosdet (1916-1996), known as Mary, was an HMI from 1950-1978 and a specialist in Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL). Having worked her way through university attaining a BA (History) and BSc (Econ) she joined the WRNS during WWII where she trained as a meteorologist. Her interest in Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) began after the Second World War when she taught English to refugee sailors before joining the British Council in Prague as a Registrar, where she again found herself teaching English much of the time. On her return to the UK she joined HMI and after retirement carried on in the role of assessor for the British Council Inspectorate and the Council for Independent Education.
