TitleVirginal, or Dietrich's Erste Ausfahrt [Fragment]
Datec1300
DescriptionFragment of a bifolium from the Virginal or Dietrich's Erste Ausfahrt (Dietrich's First Departure), parchment. An epic poem from the Dietrich cycle. An accompanying note states that this fragment is a remnant of the middle part of two leaves of a gathering. The leaf has been cut across the top and bottom with substantial loss of text. Main body text in black is a Gothic minuscule of around 1290-1310, in two columns separated by a vertical line. With red and blue paraphs. Coveney states that the dialect is Alsatian (see Dorothy K Coveney, "A Descriptive Catalogue of Manuscripts in the Library of University College London").
