TitleBiblical Commentary [Fragment]
Date14th Century
DescriptionLeaf from a Biblical commentary(?), parchment. Text is from the Gospel of Matthew featuring King Herod and Acts 12. Main text on the verso reads: "[M]isit erodes rex magn[us] ut adfliger[et] quosdam de ecclesia. occidit aute[m] Ia[co]bum f[rat]rem iohannis gladio. [videns] autem plac[er]et iudaeis appos[uit] aute[m] ap[pre]hende[re] et petrum".
Main body text is an Italian Gothic book script in dark brown ink in two columns, surrounded by gloss or commentary on biblical verses. The gloss is a Papal documentary script, widely spaced with elaborate initials also in dark brown and comprises the majority of the text on the page, around 75%. Spaces have been left for the initial letters in the main text, presumably these were to be done in colour but have not been completed.
Annotated 'E13' in pencil on the verso.
