TitleBreviary [Fragment]
Date14th Century?
DescriptionPart of a leaf from a liturgical text, probably a breviary, parchment. Text in black ink in two columns with red and blue capitals and rubrics. The leaf has been cut vertically, the first column (recto) is intact but approximately half of the text in the second column has been lost.
The text appears to be from a Requiem mass or the Office of the Dead, and begins on the recto at the end of a reading from 2 Maccabees 12:43-46. This is followed by the Gloria, "Requiem eternam dona eis domine" and the Tract "De profundis" from Psalm 130 in place of the Alleluia. There are two further readings on the recto, one from John 5:21-30 and one from John 6 of which much of the text is missing but begins "Dixit iesus discipulis suis et turbis iudeorum omne quod dat mihi pater ad me veniet". This continues on the first column of the verso. The rest of the verso has several variations of the secreta and collect indicated by rubrics, e.g. "pro uno defuncto", "pro episcopis".
There is an annotation, "Anno Domini 1575", in black ink on the right-hand margin on the verso.
