TitlePsalter [Fragments]
Date15th Century?
DescriptionParts of three bifolia from a psalter, parchment. Text in a single column in a Gothic rotunda script in dark brown ink with alternating red and blue decorated capitals and larger red and blue decorated capitals marking the start of new psalms. The leaves are not consecutive.
The first fragment is a bifolium that has been cut vertically down the second folio, about a quarter of the text on this folio is missing. The text is from Psalm 70:3-15, Psalm 72:23-28 and Psalm 73:1-6.
The second fragment is the smallest of the three, it has been cut horizontally so only the top portion of the bifolio remains. The right-hand edge has also been trimmed. The text is from Psalm 71:2-4, 8-11 and 15-17, and Psalm 72:1-3. There is also a rubric marking the antiphon "Liberasti virgam". Allowing for the missing portion, the text appears to be consecutive from the verso of f.1 to the recto of f.2, indicating that this was the innermost bifolium of a gathering.
The third fragment is similar to the first fragment, it has been cut vertically down the second folio and some text is missing. The text is Psalm 76:10-21, Psalm 77:1 and Psalm 77:50-60.
The fragments have been numbered 6, 6a and 6b in blue pencil.
