TitleMissal [Fragment]
Date11th Century?
DescriptionPart of a leaf from a missal, parchment. The leaf has been cut vertically down the right-hand side and some text is missing. About three-quarters of the text remains. The text is black in a single column in a Caroline minuscule hand with red rubrics. The imprint of an additional 4 lines of text in a Gothic script can be seen at the bottom of the recto, probably transferred from another manuscript.
The text is probably from the Mass of the Presanctified, which was traditionally celebrated on Good Friday. On the recto there is a reading from John 19:31-42, the Passion of Christ. On the verso there are the prayers of the Great Intercession, with the rubrics "Oremus flectamus genua" and "Levate".
A pencil annotation "CXI0!" appears at the top of the recto.
