Description | Part of a leaf from a missal, parchment. Text in a rounded Gothic script in two columns with red highlights and rubrics. Spaces have been left empty for large initial capitals. The leaf has been cut across the top with the loss of approximately two lines of text. The text begins on the recto at the end of the postcommunion for Ember Saturday (Advent). This is followed by the rubric for the 4th Sunday in Advent although this has faded considerably. The epistle is Philippians 4:4-7 ("Gaudete in domino semper...") and the gospel is John 1:19-25. This continues on the verso with John 1:27-28. On the verso there is also the mass for Christmas Eve, which includes a lesson from Isaiah and the epistle Romans 1:1 The imprint of additional text can be seen at the bottom of the verso, probably transferred from the same manuscript. |
