Description | Fragment from a Missal, parchment. A double leaf that has been cut in half horizontally so the bottom of each folio is missing. Folio 1r has the calendars of March and April, featuring the feast of Satints Perpetua and Felicity, perpetue et felicitatis, (7 March); the papal day of Gregory I on 12 March; feast of the Bishop Ambrose (4 April) and the papal day of Leo IV (10 April). The calendars for May and June continue on f.1v. May includes the feast days of St Gotthard (4 May), Gordianus and Epimachus (10 May) and the translation of St Nicholas (9 May), whilst June includes the feasts of Bonifacius (5 June), Primus et Felicianus (9 June), Barnabas the Apostle (11 June), Basilides, Curinus & Nabor (12 June) and Aureus & Justina (16 June). Folio 2r/v has abbreviated/prompt forms of texts used in the preaching of sermons and celebrations of mass. Column B on f.2r includes the text for the exaltation of the Holy Cross.
Annotations on the calendar and a longer annotation at the top of f.2r suggest the text was used, probably in a religious establishment. The annotation on the calendar at the bottom of f.1r is in German. |
CustodialHistory | Unknown origin, but the calendar includes the German saints Gotthard and Aureus. |
