TitleMissal [Printed Fragment]
Datec1504
DescriptionTwo consecutive bifolia from a printed missal, parchment. Probably removed from, or printed for a copy of: Hugo, Konstanz. [Jncipit ordo missalis sm chorū Constantieñ]. Augsburg : Ratdolt, Erhard, 1504. Both were outer bifolia from quire s (s1/8 and s2/7).

There is a sung portion on f.3r with musical notation in a German Gothic 'hufnagel' style. Main body text in two columns in black ink with red rubrics and initials. Musical notation on a 4-line stave drawn in red with F and C marked.
Folio 1 recto: Begins with the Gloria: "Cantatus angelicus et in terra pax hominibus..." and an alternative version for the Missa de Beata Virgine. The next portion of the text has been cut away, but is followed by the Creed (Niceno-Constantinopolitan).
Folio 1 verso: The first portion of the text has been cut away but it would have been text for the offertory, which continues down the first column and onto the second. Includes rubrics giving instructions to the celebrant.
Folio 2 recto & verso: The texts of the proper prefaces are listed here, beginning at the end of f.1v and continuing on f.2r/v. Includes the variations for Christmas, Epiphany, Lent, Ascension, Pentecost, etc.
Folio 3 recto: At least one bifolium is missing between what is now f.2 and f.3, as the text resumes part way through the Libera nos. The last line of the Libera nos and the first line of the Pax are sung: "Per omnia secula seculorum. Pax domini sit semper vobiscum." . The musical notation is given here. The Pax is followed by the Agnus Dei.
Folio 3 verso: this folio has the text for the Communion of the priest. At the bottom of the leaf directly below the text instruction to receive the Host there is a drawing of Jesus made in ink on a piece of paper pasted onto the parchment.
Folio 4 recto/verso: The text continues with the post-Communion ablutions and the rubric for the 'finita missa'. On the verso there is the final prayer and the last Gospel (John 1, "In principio erat verbum...").

There are several annotations. The numbers 11 and 11a appear in blue pencil at the bottom of f.1r and f.2r. The number 11 also appears in purple on f.1v. An earlier blue annotation on f.1r has been crossed out but a pencil annotation "N 296 f" is also visible underneath. Another pencil annotation is faintly visible in the top corner of f.1r but it has mostly been rubbed away.
