Description | Single leaf from a noted missal, parchment. Lessons and chants with musical notation in a German Gothic 'hufnagel' style on a 3-line stave with red F line. The text is written in a German Gothic script in two columns with red and blue decorated initials, red and blue initials and red rubrics. The texts are for Feria ii and iii, i.e. the ferial office on Mondays and Tuesdays. Recto consists of a reading from 1 Peter 3:9-15, Psalm 31 sung as a chant, and another reading from Luke 5:1-7. Luke 5:7-11 continues on the verso and is followed by another chant; "Unam petii a domino hanc". There is a new rubric marking the start of Feria iii and readings from Paul's Epistle to the Romans 8:1-6 and John. There are several annotations. 'clx' is faintly visible at the top of the recto and 'xlviii' is clearly visible at the bottom, one or both may be page numbers. The numeral 'IX.' has been written on a small square of vellum attached to the bottom right corner of the recto. There are some mathematical calculations at the top left corner of the verso, probably 16th century. |
