TitleNoted Missal [Fragment]
DateLate 13th Century
DescriptionDouble leaf from a noted missal, parchment. Likely to have been part of a gathering, as there is text missing between f.1v and f.2r. Main body text in two columns in a Gothic script in black ink with red rubrics, red initials and highlights. Evidence of large initials in another pigment, probably blue, can be seen faintly. Musical notation in Germanic neumes with a messine influence on a 4-line stave with F(?) marked.
Folio 1: recto begins with a reading from Luke 6:40-42. There is a chant, "Dominus firmamentum meam", followed by a reading from Ephesians 1. There are at least three lines of text missing between the first and second columns, indicating that the top and bottom of the folio have been cut off. The text on the recto ends with Matthew 21:23-26. On the recto there are readings from John 1 and Matthew 17. There is also a chant, "Exaudi domine vocem meam" from the service for the 5th Sunday after Pentecost.
Folio 2: recto begins with a reading from Luke 16 and has the collect for the 9th Sunday after Pentecost. This is followed by a reading from Romans 6. There is a chant at the end of the first column but the text is illegible. The text on the verso has a reading from Luke 11 and the collect for the 10th Sunday after Pentecost.

There are annotations in the central margin, which would have been the spine when the fragment was used for binding. 'A' and '30' can be seen upside down to the main text near the bottom of the leaf. There is a longer annotation at the top of the leaf but this has been damaged and is illegible.
