TitleAntiphonal [Fragment]
Date15th Century?
DescriptionOne folio from an antiphonal, parchment. Patterns of damage and discolouration clearly show that it was re-used as the outer covering for an octavo-sized volume. Main body text in black ink in a Gothic book hand with rubrics and red highlights. There are large red and blue capitals and black capitals decorated with red. The remains of a blue "I" can be seen to the left of the 8th line on the verso. The music is in square notation on a 4-line stave. The notator has corrected an error in line 4 on the verso.
The text contains chants for the Common of a Virgin Martyr, beginning on the recto with "Veni sponsa christe accipe coronam" and "Veni electa mea et ponam in te thronum". This is followed by verses for the Common of one Virgin (not Martyr): "Hec est virgo sapiens quam dominus vigilantem" (which continues onto the verso), "Accinxit fortitudine lumbos suos" and "Induit me dominus vestimento".

There are several annotations on both sides of the leaf. "Wagener" has been noted in pencil in the right hand margin on the recto (top portion, folded under) and the same hand has annotated the top margin on the verso. The remnants of a label stuck onto the parchment can be seen in the bottom left corner on the verso and a small "H" in the bottom right corner. In the middle of the verso a black and white marking with the label "Λ - Ω" has been drawn directly onto the parchment, possibly the shelfmark of the book this fragment was used to cover.
Original line rulings are visible and stitching holes from the manuscript's original binding can be seen on the left-hand edge.
