AdminHistorySir Edward Coke: born at Mileham, Norfolk, 1552; prominent in public and political life; jurist whose defence of the supremacy of the common law against Stuart claims of royal prerogative profoundly influenced the development of English law and the English constitution; died at Stoke Poges, Buckinghamshire, 1634. Publications include: his 'Reports', the first eleven volumes published (in French and Latin), 1600-1615 (first published in English, 1658-1659), volumes xii and xiii published (in English) in 1656 and 1659 respectively.
CustodialHistoryPart of the library of Charles Kay Ogden (1889-1957), linguistic psychologist, founder of the Orthological Institute and originator of the language system Basic English, whose interests in language systems are reflected in the subject matter of his collection, which comprised individual manuscripts and manuscript collections dating from the 14th to the 20th century.
AcquisitionPart of the C K Ogden Library acquired by UCL in 1953.
