AdminHistoryJohn Bright was born in Greenbank, Rochdale, Lancashire, on 16 November 1811. He became a politician, orator and statesman. He was interested in languages, politics, government and political movements. His first wife was Elizabeth, eldest daughter of Jonathan Priestman. Bright married his second wife, Margaret Elizabeth Leatham, daughter of William Leatham of Heath near Wakefield, a banker, on 10 June 1847. She died in 1878. By her he had four sons and three daughters.
CustodialHistoryPart of the library of Charles Kay Ogden (1889-1957), linguistic psychologist, founder of the Orthological Institute and originator of the language system Basic English, whose interests in language systems are reflected in the subject matter of his collection, which comprised individual manuscripts and manuscript collections dating from the 14th to the 20th century.
AcquisitionPart of the C K Ogden Library acquired by UCL in 1953.
