DescriptionCommonplace book compiled by Sir William Drake. Collection of proverbs and wisdom, many of which are from Italian works. Proverbs are takn from Aretino, Stefano Guazzo, Jacob Cats and Erasmus. A seleciton of "Italian provers with some sentences" is illustrated with references to Tacitus, Polybius and Machiavelli, Guicciardini, Scipione Ammirato and Bacon. Includes a short collection of notes "Of Negotiating" mainly by Bacon, and shome short notes from works by Cardinal Bentivolgio, Cardan, and Virgilio Malvezzi.

The volume can be dated by two notes, of "Moneys received of Debts I left in England" dated 1 May 1644 and a rent debt of Lady Day 1643.
