Date1948-c1980
AdminHistoryThe Board of Management of The National Hospital continued to exist after its amalgamation with Maida Vale Hospital in 1948 in accordance with the terms of its Royal Charter; specifically to consider those functions which came outside the scope of the National Health Service Act, such as the administration of the Pension Fund and other endowment funds, and the treatment of patients from abroad - since the National Health Service Act applied only to the people of England and Wales. The Ministry of Health agreed to allow the Hospital to continue to administer its funds independently. As the name of the nationalised hospital (The National Hospitals for Nervous Diseases) could easily be confused with that of the original hospital, the latter was renamed The Chartered Society of Queen Square.
