Description	Manuscript and music of a "harmonised distorted tunes test" devised by L S Penrose. Subjects were asked to listen to some well-known tunes played with a harmony that was designed to be confusing, and state whether the melody was played correctly. Penrose was interested to know whether tone-deafness could be inherited genetically in the same way as colour-blindness.
