Description	This series contains original source material used by Simon during the drafting of his autobiography. Much of the material is the personal papers of him and his family from his early childhood up to the time of writing. All the files had been marked by Simon as 'Autobiography' and have therefore been retained together. There are further personal papers that do not appear to have been used during the writing of hisautobiography at SIM/5. Simon also seems to have removed files from other parts of his collection whilst writing the autobiography. Where this is known the series from which the file was taken has been noted. Simon appears to have begun drafting an autobiography in the late 1980s. His original plan was to have two volumes: the first was to cover the period 1915-1950 and the second the period 1950-c1996. Eventually a one volume autobiography was published in 1998 as 'A Life in Education'. Don Jones originally intended for these papers to be listed as part of SIM/3. They were catalogued at SIM/4 as this better reflects Simon's use of the files as part of his research for one of his publications.
