AdminHistoryFrederick (Fred) Brown (1851-1941) was Slade Professor of Fine Art from 1892-1917.

Brown was a painter and studied at the National Art Training School (later the Royal College of Art) from 1868-1877 and at the Academie Julian in Paris in 1886. He was also a founder of the New English Art Club and author of its constitution. From 1877-1892 he was headmaster at the Westminster School of Art before becoming Slade Professor of Fine Art in 1892.
