AdminHistory | Randolph Schwabe (1885-1948) was Slade Professor of Fine Art from 1930-1948. Schwabe was a draughtsman, painter and etcher. He served as a war artist in both World Wars, created designs for theatrical productions and illustrated a number of books. After WWI he began teaching at both the Camberwell School of Art and the Westminster School of Art before becoming Slade Professor of Fine Art and Principal of the Slade School in 1930. He presided over the evacuation of the School to Oxford during WWII where it shared accommodation at the Ashmolean Museum with the Ruskin School of Drawing. |
