| AdminHistory | Bartolomeu (Barto) dos Santos (1931-2008) was Head of Printmaking at the Slade and was appointed a Professor of Fine Art in 1994.
Dos Santos was born in Lisbon in 1931. He studied at the Escola Superior de Belas Artes (1950-1956) and at the Slade (1957-1958) where he began teaching on completion of his studies. He joined the full-time staff in 1961 where he worked until his retirement in 1996, becoming Head of Printmaking and a Professor of Fine Art. He was also elected a Fellow of University College London (1995).
An enthusiastic traveller Dos Santos also held various visiting professorships at art colleges in the US, Sweden, Pakistan and Macau and he was a regular visiting lecturer and external examiner at other UK art schools.
