| AdminHistory | The English New Education Fellowship (ENEF) was founded in 1927 as the English Section of the New Education Fellowship and continued to use the name after the international organisation became the World Education Fellowship in 1966. In 1930 Percy Nunn became the Chairman of the English Section and Miss Matthews was the Secretary. In 1984 it was renamed the World Education Fellowship (Great Britain) merging with the Scottish Section and the members in Northern Ireland.

| CustodialHistory | Many of the records dating from before 1942 where destroyed when the head office of the New Education Fellowship where the English Section was based were bombed during World War II. Most of the records were transferred to the Institute in 1983 on the death of the secretary, H Raymond King. A later accession was received in 1995. The 1995 material was roughly catalogued but this list was abandoned as most of the material comprised duplicates of records from the 1983 accession.
The records were maintained by the Secretary of the ENEF. There are very few records dating from before 1942 because the office shared by the ENEF and the New Education Fellowship was bombed during World War II. The ENEF minutes record that the only belonging of the ENEF to survive was one typewriter and a card index.
The initial accession (boxes 1- generally dating from 1942-1983) was sent to the Institute of Education in 1983 on the death of Raymond King, then the secretary of the ENEF and mostly comprise the papers retained by Hilda Clark, James Anannd and Raymond King. There are noticable gaps in the records for the period 1966-1969, though there is correspondence from this period whicj can be found in the alphabetical files.
A second accession (Boxes A-B) was received in the 1990s. The second accession was catalogued but never took into account the material received in the first accession and the arrangement was inadequate. In 2009 when the catalogue for the World Education Fellowship was revised, the arrangement of the 1990s ENEF accession was abandoned as most of the material was duplicates of records in the 1983 accession. The references for the old catalogue have been retained and noted as this list was published on Access to Archives. |
