<dc:description>Explaining that he had been very apprehensive when he first arrived in Amsterdam to work for Mr Vernède but that his father's encouragement had helped him overcome his fears. Jean François then reports to his father what had been happening in the house of Mr Vernède. Apparently, Mr Vernède 's eldest daughter was set to marry Mr Bouillet. The latter is described as a 45-year-old Minister, virtually living in the household, and according to Jean François, not a good match for Mlle Vernède.
