Matthieu Penarie Matthieu Penarie, a 64 year old man, requests to be admitted to the Hospital. His father, Pierre Penarie, was originally from Montpellier, in Languedoc. Matthieu used to be a chiseler and is now a porter; however, he suffers from dropsy and is too feeble to keep working. He is a member of the French Church of Les Grecs.
