  <dc:description>In mid-July Lonsdale travelled to New Zealand at the invitation of its University Grants Committee and spent three weeks visiting the main universities as a Commonwealth Prestige Fellow. In early August she moved on to Australia, where she presided at the International Conference on Electron Diffraction and Crystal Defects, Melbourne, 16-21 August. Lonsdale spent over a month in Australia during which time she travelled widely and gave numerous lectures.

In early September Lonsdale spent a couple of days in Mexico to give three lectures arranged by the British Council. She then visited the United States for about a week before returning home to England.</dc:description>
