A note on the flyleaf, dated 19 November 1840, signed by Samuel Sharpe, says 'this volume was given to me by my uncle Samuel Rogers. It is in his own hand-writing, and was written about sixty years ago, and was used by him when reading prayers morning and evening to his father's family in Newington Green.' c. 1780
