1896-1966 Freinet was an French elementary schoolteacher who developed progressive teaching methods called the Modern School Movement. He was also the founder of the Coopérative de l'Enseignement Laïc, a teachers' trade Union in 1924 which aimed to change public education through the help of teachers.
