Corporate 1848-2002 Formed in 1848 as the Metropolitan Evening Classes for Young Men in Crosby Hall, Bishopsgate, London. In 1860 the classes moved to Sussex Hall, in Leadenhall Street and in 1861 began the City of London College. In 1891 joined the Birkbeck Institute and the Northampton Institute to form the City Polytechnic. This was dissolved in 1906, when City of London College was administered by the London County Council. In In 1970 the College merged with Sir John Cass College to form the City of London Polytechnic. In 1992 the Polytechnic was renamed the London Guildhall University. In 2002 the University was almgulated with the university merged with the University of North London into the London Metropolitan University.
