1931-1998 She was educated at Blaenavon Secondary School, Monmouth; William Morris High School, Walthamstow and the University of London. She became a nursery school teacher and a member of the Socialist Party of Great Britain. She became a member of the Metropolitan Borough of Wandsworth in 1958 and served on the London County Council, 1962-1964. In 1966 she was elected the MP for Eton and Slough. She lost her seat in 1983 but later returned to parliament for Eccles from 1987-1997. She was created Baroness Lestor of Eccles, of Tooting Bec in the London Borough of Wandsworth in 1997.
