1761-1804 She was believed to be the illegitimate daughter of John Lindsay and an African slave woman known only as Belle. She was sent to live with her 'uncle', the Earl of Manfield, to be brought up at Kenwood House and was brought up with Manfield's other niece, Elizabeth Murray. Dido was brought as a member of the family and it appears was treated as a lady's companion to Elizabeth. She was later responsibility for the dairy and poultry yards at Kenwood and helped Manfield with his correspondence. She was painted with Elizabeth by an unknown painter in 1779, which now hangs in Scone Palace, Scotland .
