She was educated in her father's school and was one of the first students at Newnham College, Cambridge in 1871 and in 1880 was one of the first women admitted to the University of London degree. She was the assistant mistress at Plymouth High School, 1875-1876. In 1876 she was appointed the first head of Brighton High School, a school opened by the Girls' Day School Company. In 1883 she became the head of King Edward VI's High School for Girls. From 1893-1900, She was an associate of Newnham College and founded the Newnham College Club in Birmingham. She resigned from King Edwards' in 1910 and died on 20 May 1919. </Nationality>
