It is believed she was home educated until she entered Newnham College Cambridge in 1878 and graduated in 1881. In 1882 she became an assistant mistress at the Girls' Public Day School Company School (GPDSC), Notting Hill and Bayswater High School. A year later she became head of the new GPDSC school in Tunbridge Wells. In 1891 she was transferred to Gateshead High School and in 1895 was also the head of Newcastle Central High School which had formerly been the preparatory department of the Gateshead School. When Gateshead school merged with the Newcastle in 1907, she was appointed head of the new school. She retired in 1911 and ended her career long connection with the GPDSC (now the Girls' Public Day School Trust). She died on 4 August 1940. </Nationality>
