Person Mary Porter, ([1836]-1905)

[1836]-1905 Mary Eliza Porter was born around 1836. She was educated at Queen's College London and by 1860 was the head of a girls' school in Bolham near Tiverton. In 1871 she was appointed the head of Drake and Tonson's Girls' School in Keighley. In 1873 she was appointed the head of the first school opened by the Girls' Public Day School Company in Chelsea (later renamed Kensington High School). After leaving the GPDSC she headed various schools, Bradford Grammar School for Girls, 1875-1880; Castletown High School, Isle of Mann, 1880-[1882]; Bedford Modern School, 1882-1894. She was also a founder member of the Association of Head Mistresses.
